20.6 Alteration Processes
Alteration processes involve rearranging feed stream molecular structure in order to produce higher quality products. Quality is increased by increasing the hydrogen/carbon (H/C) ratio. This can be achieved either by hydrogenation processes such as hydrotreating, hydrocracking or by carbon rejection processes such as thermal cracking (coking) and fluid catalytic cracking (FCC).
