20. Petroleum Processing
-
Lube Oil: Lube oil is one of the precursor used for synthesis of lubricants. Lubricants usually compose of lube oil(also called base oil) and certain additives to enhance properties of the lubricant.
-
Heavy Oil: Heavy oil is collection of complex long chain hydrocarbons possessing high viscosity which is obtained during petroleum refining. It is depleted in hydrogen in comparison to light oil.
-
Vacuum Slop: It is the intermediate product of vacuum gas oil and vacuum residue. It can be used as a fuel if low sulphur is present or it can be fed to delayed coker units.
-
Coke: Coke is a high carbon containing fuel. The coke obtained via refining is called petcoke (or petroleum coke). Petcoke can be used as a fuel, making electrodes etc depending on its purity and morphology.
-
Asphalt: Bitumen is a semi-solid heavier fraction of hydrocarbon obtained by refining of heavy crude oil. Asphalt composes of 5% bitumen mixed with sand, fillers and binders. It is widely used in construction of roads as a paving material.
