1. Basic Text Formating

Line breaking should be prevented at certain interword spaces. Typing ~ (a tilde character) produces an ordinary interword space at which TeX will never break a line.

It is best not to break a line within certain words. The \mbox command tells TeX to print its entire argument on the same line.
