2.2 Integral Method of Analysis of Data for CVBR

Steps involved:

  1. Guess a particular form of the reaction rate expression. e.g.: \[\begin{align*} -r_A &= kC_A^2 = -\frac{dC_A}{dt} \\ -r_A &= kC_A = -\frac{dC_A}{dt} \end{align*}\]

  2. Separate the variables and perform integration.

  3. Plot a graph of the concentration function (obtained after integration) versus time, which should yield a straight line.

  4. If the data points plotted give a decent fit of a straight line, then the rate equation guessed in step 1 is fitting the data satisfactorily.

  5. If the data do not fit to a good straight line, then reject the rate equation guessed, and go to step 1.
